February is a great month for finding new fantasy romance books! While Valentine's Day is long past at this point, at least for me the whole of February tends to a month to celebrate love in all it's forms! Also, what else are you going to do in a month of cold gray winter days (at least here in the northern half of the US) but eat chocolate and read books?!
One of the reasons I write is because it can be difficult to find clean fantasy romance books that fall closer to the "new adult" category than the "YA" category. Don't get me wrong—I love a good YA fiction as much as the next person, but as a woman in her mid-thirties it can be a little tiring reading about teenagers saving the world in every single book. Sometimes I want to read about a late twenties gal who is focused on her career in magical horticulture and suddenly plunged into a race against time to battle the forces of darkness alongside an unlikely and frustrating love interest with a bad attitude and a heart of gold. (Hold on while I go flesh that story idea out a little more!!!) And although I'll read contemporary romance every now and again, as long as I'm suspending disbelief I'd rather read a couple growing individually and together while adventuring in a magical world instead of of the regular one any day.
But enough of my ramblings! I popped on here to provide RESOURCES people!! Read on below for a list of great clean fantasy romance books, all by indie authors. I have shared most of these authors in my newsletters previously, but they're my favorite for a reason!
- Belle & Beast, by Rebecca Fittery. Yes I'm starting with my own book! I love my books and hope you will too. If you're into strong heroines, growly princes, and magical world building, start with Book I in my series.
- Between Jobs, by WR Gingell. If you're into super slow burn romance, twisty world building, and odd characters that will tear your heart apart then sew it back together stronger than ever, stop now and start this (completed!!) series. The link is to book one in her urban fantasy series, but she also has fairytale retellings and more.
- The King's Captive, by KM Shea. Can we call Kitty the Queen of Indie Fantasy Romance? I think we can at this point. If you're reading my blog, you've probably already read her books, but if you haven't boy are you in for a treat. She has a huge back catalogue that you can binge for days. I would say she tends to lean YA, although her newer urban fantasy series is more new adult. If you like humorous, magic filled stories with strong heroines and adventure, check out any of her stories.
- Brine & Bone, by Kate Stradling. If you're into mystical, compelling, sometimes haunting stories, read Kate Stradling. This version of the Little Mermaid has never left my mind!
- The Faceless Mage, by Kenley Davidson. If you like slow burn "will they won't they" romance, adventure, and magical world building check out Kenley. As a bonus she has some great sci-fi fantasy romance as well!
That's all for now readers, although it's not even NEARLY a complete list. Most of these authors have had recent releases or have some planned in the next few months. I hope you can find something new in their catalogues to enjoy during the remainder of February!
Happy Reading!
