Fairytale settings to live in your dreams

As an author, it may come as no surprise that I love to daydream. And I mean love to daydream. I cannot stop my mind from going on short little adventures frequently during the day. All it takes is an odd turn of phrase uttered by a passerby, a warm breeze stirring my hair on an evening walk, or an engrossing science article about time crystals to make me wonder what if.
Traveling and exploring can be the biggest generators of "what ifs". I remember stumbling upon an old log farmhouse while hiking a trail in the smoky mountains that instantly made me wonder who lived there hundreds of years ago and what their life must have been like. Was their house as secluded as it was now, or was there a town not far away that has since disintegrated with time? My mind pictured women in long floral dresses sweeping the front porch in the late afternoon heat. What would they would have thought of me in my athletic shorts and t-shirt could they have seen me? I have to admit that cottage popped into my mind a few times while I was writing Snow White and Briar Rose.
If you're looking for an escape but can't travel at the moment, hop on over to my Pinterest page. I have an entire board for fairytale settings—many of which inspired the settings in my books! Others are simply pictures that make me dream.
What are your favorite places to dream of? The beach? A mountain retreat? An icy glacier with hot springs in the distance? My current work in progress takes place in a hazy dream world that is both surreal and disconcerting. Somehow that feels right during these winter months. Let me know what you're dreaming of in the comments!
